Let the Painting Begin - July 23, 2022

Although I enjoy the challenge of sculpting, it's the painting that is my favorite part of doll making. Here I have applied a base coat of dark blues. The reason for this is that it will add depth to the painting that comes next. The trick is to keep the other layers light enough that the darker blue tones will flash through. This is particularly the case with the head and shoulders as it will also add shading in some areas.

As you can see I've sketched an image on the body. Rather than painting scales on the bodies, I have chosen to have my sea maids and sirens depict other aquatic life with each having a symbol or 'totem' . This is the siren CALLIOPE which means "beautiful voiced" and she will represent the majestic spirit and song of the humpback whale.
